Duties

Under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the Mental Health Director (Director) is responsible for directing clinical and administrative support services to the Mental Health Department. The Director is also responsible for establishing clinical practice policy and procedures and quality assurance and improvement processes. In addition, the Director carries a clinical caseload as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director is responsible for the following:

  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures according to most current mental health guidelines. Ensures compliance with legal issues, including but not limited to, patient confidentiality and risk management; ensures compliance with regulations.
  • Works towards enhancing the development of clinic practices, which are culturally competent and serve the needs of our patient population.
  • Provides clinical oversight in the delivery of mental health services across multiple health centers and school-based sites. 
  • Selects, trains, evaluates and supervises mental health clinicians. 
  • Provides clinical supervision in the form of group and/or individual peer supervision as appropriate.
  • Provides expertise and guidance on mental health issues for Clinicians and staff through in-service trainings, interdisciplinary meetings and consultations.
  • Provides patient care in the form of individual, couples, family and/or group psychotherapy.
  • Performs psychological assessments using interviews, mental status exam and/or psychological tests, if qualified.   
  • Interfaces with health center management regarding program development, space allocation, back-up support services, etc.   
  • Works closely with the Operations team to optimize patient access to mental health services, financial reimbursement for services and clinicians’ productivity.
  • Frequently collaborates with other departments, administrative and clinical personnel on development of new programs, improvement or modification of existing services, introduction of new services, systems and training.
  • Provides feedback to CMO regarding clinical and administrative aspects of the practice.
  • Supervises Mental Health front desk functions such as scheduling, billing and other relevant aspects of the Mental Health services practice. 
  • Interfaces with agencies and/or individuals from the community to enhance existing services as appropriate.
  • Provides public relations representation at community functions and assists in developing and maintaining corporate goals. 
  • Interacts in a professional manner and works collaboratively Clinicas’ staff, patients and business partners.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned including participation in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.

Requirements
  • Previous administrative and clinical experience.  Must be licensed in the state of California as a Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and orally.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to analyze personnel and organizational problems and apply corrective action.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with providers, patients, employees and community representatives. 
  • Understanding of business administration, budgets and staffing. 
  • Demonstrated flexibility; ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in making decisions and problem solving.
  • Experience working with community organizations is desirable.  
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills and experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is highly desirable.
