JOB OBJECTIVE

This position will work under the supervision of the Billing Manager.  The Billing Lead provides support to the Billing Manager and assists in the oversight of the day to day operations in the Billing Department.  Billing Lead will interact with a multi-cultural population of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, ages and levels of education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Billing Lead must fully understand the entire billing process and requirements for their assigned team and is responsible for performing the following duties:

  • May perform some functions of a Billing Specialist
  • Monitors billing activities and processes to ensure timely billing and receipt of payment.
  • Prepares and reviews reports to ensure that rejections, denials and unpaid balances are followed up on
  • Provides customer service to patients, staff and payers
  • Conducts research on billing questions and problems
  • Contacts and collaborates with outside agencies, other CDCR staff and managers to resolve issues or to improve processes
  • Assists in planning, directing, organizing, implementing and monitoring procedures for efficient day to day operations
  • Provides training and technical assistance to Billing Specialists and other CDCR staff
  • Assist Billing Manager with personnel tasks (hiring, preparing employee evaluations, enforcing CDCR policies and procedures to ensure compliance, assist in timesheet and time off approval).
  • Handles some personnel issues
  • Attends, participates and conducts meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned including participation in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.

Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A certification or some college work in medical terminology, billing and coding, business or accounting, and business communications is desirable.
  • Must have knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification for Diseases (ICD) codes; Medi-cal , Medicare and insurance billing knowledge or experience; insurance claim forms: paper or electronic.
  • Minimum of one year of billing and customer service experience required.
  • Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment (calculator, copy machine).Must be proficient in Microsoft Work/Excel.
  • Strong
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate professionally and effectively with accurate spelling and grammar; prepare professional letters, procedures and documents.
  • Possess excellent customer service and maintain effective working relationship with patients; peers, managers and payors.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Capable to analyze and solve problems with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to do some traveling for seminars and conferences.
